Addressing Student Depression: A Personal Approach

Today, depression has become all too common, especially among young people. It’s troubling to witness students struggling silently, unable to reach out for support from their elders.

Depression often manifests as a feeling of isolation, with negative thoughts convincing us we’re incapable of achieving anything. Unfortunately, even adults may struggle to recognize these signs, leaving students to navigate their challenges alone. I’ve observed two distinct types of depression among students: those who withdraw into silence and those who exhibit aggressive behavior.

In my view, the key to overcoming this epidemic lies in parental vigilance and support. Until at least the 10th grade, students are tasked with the responsibilities of learning and enjoying themselves. Yet, where does this depression originate? I believe it’s deeply rooted in the academic pressures students face.

By identifying and addressing these issues head-on, we can set students on a path to recovery. Parents play a pivotal role in this journey. They must prioritize spending quality time with their children, fostering open communication and refraining from comparison or criticism.

Every day, parents should sit with their children during study time, actively engaging with their learning process. This consistent effort is not fleeting; it must be sustained over years. Through diligence and dedication, parents can cultivate an environment where depression struggles to take hold.

I’m confident that with unwavering parental support, students can navigate through their academic challenges and emerge resilient. Let’s work together to combat student depression and foster a brighter future.”
